Student Therapy

Supporting Your Journey Through School & Life.

“You’re growing through what you’re going through — one step, one semester, one moment at a time.”

The teen years can feel like a rollercoaster — and for some, it’s not as fun as it sounds. This stage of life can bring a range of challenges, from emotional stress to academic pressure. You’ll have the chance to build lifelong skills like planning, organizing, problem-solving, managing emotions, and leaning into your strengths to handle life’s stressors more effectively.

At Discover Counselling Services, we’re here to help you make sense of what you’re going through and understand how it’s impacting your life. In session, you’ll have the space and support to build resilience, strengthen your coping tools, and move forward with confidence.

Reduced Fee for Students

We understand that students are often managing tight budgets while balancing the challenges of school, work, and life. That's why we offer a reduced fee of $100.00 for a 50-minute session for students who qualify. Our goal is to make therapy accessible and affordable, so you can get the support you need without worrying about financial barriers.

Student ID: Simply show us your current student ID, and we’ll apply the reduced rate.

Referral from Your School: No student ID? No problem. A referral from your school’s social worker, counsellor, or health department works too. Need help getting one? Just reach out!

College & University Insurance: Your school insurance may cover the $100.00 fee per session. Check if it covers sessions with a Registered Social Worker (RSW). To learn more about our insurance details, click here.

Not sure? Just contact us and we’ll figure out the best option together!

Your mental health shapes how you experience your time as a student — how you manage challenges, connect with others, and pursue your goals. We’re here to make that support accessible, with reduced fees and guidance on using your insurance coverage, so you can focus on what matters most.

Insurance Coverage Information for
College & University Students

Good news! If you're covered by your school’s health insurance, your therapy sessions may be fully or partially covered. Here's how to check and use your insurance benefits for therapy:

Check Your Insurance Coverage: Reach out to your insurance provider to confirm if they cover therapy services. You can usually check by calling the customer service number on your insurance card or reviewing your plan online.

Confirm Your Coverage: In some cases, you may need to confirm whether therapy is covered under your plan, whether there's a co-payment, or if a referral is required.

Student Challenges We Address

When Everything
Feels Like It’s

Too Much…

School. Friends. Family. Your future. It can feel like pressure is coming from every direction. Sometimes you're ot even sure why you feel the way you do — you just know it's harder to sleep, focus, or keep up. Stress, self-doubt, conflicting emotions, or big questions about who you are can leave you feeling overwhelmed — these are not only common, but incredibly normal abd you don't have to figure it out alone.

At Discover Counselling Services, we create a supportive space to talk things through, manage emotions, and discover what works best for you. Together, we'll build the skills to handle life's stressors so you can feel more confident, more in control, and more like yourself again.

The Steps We Take

Ready to Start Your Journey?

Sometimes it feels like everyone expects you to have it all figured out — who you are, what you want, and how to get there. But what if you're still sorting through it all?

Therapy is your space to pause the noise. No pressure, no performance — just a place to check in with yourself, unpack the things you’ve been carrying, and learn how to move through them with clarity and self-trust.

At Discover Counselling Services, we don’t just focus on what’s “wrong.” We focus on what’s real — your experiences, your strengths, and the patterns you’re ready to shift.

Because the truth is, growing up isn’t about being perfect. It’s about learning how to be you, even when the world feels overwhelming.

Answers to Your

Questions

Who Can Benefit From Student Therapy?

Student therapy is for teens and young adults navigating the challenges of school, relationships, identity, and life transitions. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, unmotivated, or unsure of your next steps, therapy can help you build tools to manage stress and support your growth.

What Happens During an Student Therapy Session?

Each session offers a safe, judgment-free space to talk about what’s on your mind. Together, we explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences while building practical skills to help you cope, stay organized, manage emotions, and move toward your goals.

Do You Use a Specific Approach or Therapy Method for Students?

Yes. I draw from evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and strength-based strategies tailored to the needs of students. The approach is collaborative and flexible, always centered around what works best for you.

Do You Offer Virtual or Online Sessions?

Yes, online therapy sessions are available and offer flexibility, convenience, and the same quality of therapeutic support as in-person sessions.

Do Parents / Caregivers Attend Student Therapy Sessions?

For teens in their early years, a parent or caregiver is typically present for the first 20 minutes of the initial 60-minute session. This allows space to answer questions, share concerns, and support a strong start to the therapeutic process.

Will I (As a Parent / Caregiver) be Updated on My Teen's Sessions?

After the first session, therapy is confidential. That means no details are shared with parents or caregivers unless the teen gives their expressed permission. This privacy helps build trust and encourages openness in the sessions.

What Happens if I'm Concerned About My Teen's Safety?

If you have serious concerns about your teen’s wellbeing, especially related to safety, we encourage you to share them. Any issues involving potential harm to self or others are taken seriously and discussed directly with the teen. These conversations are handled with care, transparency, and a focus on safety and support.
