Insurance Claims Information for Students

  • Campus Health Insurance: Some universities offer their own health insurance plans that may cover therapy. Reach out to your campus health center to ask about these options.
  • Student Health Services: Many schools have on-campus counsellors or provide access to off-campus therapists through their student health insurance plan. Verify your coverage and confirm whether therapy is included if it is provided by a Registered Social Worker (RSW).
  • Coverage Details: Contact the student health insurance office to ask about co-pays, covered therapy types, and any potential referrals that might be needed.

Please Note: In Ontario, Social Workers are not covered by OHIP. Generally, Practitioners such as your family doctor and Psychiatrists are the only health and mental health professionals that are covered under OHIP. This is why it’s so important that you check to confirm your coverage with your insurer or your school.
